HOSTING WITHOUT BULLSH*T
Renuo AG is a Swiss software engineering company with a mission: to write great code – preferably in Ruby on Rails – without having to deal with server administration. For years, everything ran via Heroku, until a single Slack message got everything rolling. In this success story, we tell you how Renuo found the perfect cloud hosting partner in Switzerland – and why Deploio is now the clear number one for them.
Renuo AG

Hey everyone. Is anyone primarily hosting with Heroku and also not happy with their recently announced changes? It would be a good opportunity to set up something of our own. I look forward to receiving PMs.

Hey Samuel
We're not using Heroku ourselves, but we have a lot of our own infrastructure, a Kubernetes platform in our own datacenter, and a platform based on Google's Kubernetes Engine on Google Cloud.
What exactly do you want to do? What don't you like about Heroku?
Maybe we should talk?
Regards
Tom
Oh... we/I = nine.ch
THE TIME BEFORE THE CLOUD
Deploio is operated by Nine and we used to be a Nine customer. That was before the cloud. We set up and operated servers for our customers. That took a lot of time and nerves: Buying SSL certificates, managing SSH access, monitoring disk space, updating system libraries. But then came Heroku. It freed us from server administration. We were able to concentrate on software development, even without vendor lock-in thanks to 12factor. Simply “git push”, CI/CD and the customer can test. So we moved to the cloud.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Renuo is an owner-managed Swiss company. But Heroku is American and runs on AWS. That bothered us for the next ten years. It must be possible to use a product as cool as Heroku in Switzerland, where I can kick down doors if I don't like something – good luck with that at Salesforce. We were in the Enterprise contract; simply a construct from hell. That's when Deploio came to the rescue and at the right time!
We code, Deploio does the rest
We are in the software business, not the infrastructure business. I don't want to run Kubernetes myself or bare-metal servers (how do I separate clients? who actually does kernel updates?). We develop good code, that must be enough: 'git push', CI/CD and the customer can test. Deploio handles the infrastructure, in Switzerland, and they do it well. I never had to break down the door at Stauffacher Square.
