SWISS DATA, SWISS RULES

With its salary survey, swissICT has for years delivered the largest and most independent study of the Swiss IT working world – a key reference for HR and recruiting across the country. Hosting ran smoothly for years, until the previous partner unexpectedly ceased operations in 2024. In this success story, we share how swissICT found a Swiss partner that takes data sovereignty seriously within just a few weeks – and why the salary survey runs on Deploio today.

The migration of the salary survey succeeded in early 2025 and proved that digital sovereignty is achievable. In swissICT's case, it required a deliberate decision to take the safe route with local partner companies.

THE CHALLENGE OF CHANGING PARTNERS

In 2024, the salary survey's previous development and hosting partner ceased operations. A new solution had to be found within a few weeks. As the study grows in relevance and compliance requirements increase significantly, so do the demands on every partner involved in the project.

The central question goes beyond mere control: which service providers are trustworthy enough to safeguard data sovereignty? How do partners ensure that compliance-relevant processes are transparent and legally compliant? Where exactly is the data hosted – and under what conditions? One thing is clear: improvised back-room hosting is not an option, and neither is one-sided dependence on global US corporations.

DATA SOVEREIGNTY AS A DECISIVE FACTOR

The choice fell on Deploio, the Swiss app engine for web agencies and organizations that value digital sovereignty. The PaaS solution offers modern deployment standards, full data sovereignty and a clear cost structure, operated in an ISO 27001-certified data centre in Zurich. Unlike global cloud providers that do run servers in Switzerland but are subject to the US Cloud Act, Deploio guarantees that sensitive data never leaves the country. For swissICT this was a decisive criterion: true digital sovereignty means not only a location in Zurich, but also legal independence.

A MIGRATION THAT LASTS

At the same time, Deploio convinces with its practical architecture. The platform provides a ready-to-use environment with common frameworks, databases and development tools – without ballast, and without having to manage operating systems or infrastructure yourself: link the GitHub repository to Deploio, and you're done.

That left the technical service provider behind the salary survey free to focus on what mattered: a secure and fast migration. Thanks to Deploio's automated workflows – from testing to rolling out new versions – the transition worked smoothly from day one and was completed on schedule despite the tight timeline.

OK – admittedly – it didn't go quite that smoothly: because the app had been provisioned with 16 GB of RAM in the old setup, a few performance improvements were needed. Today the same app runs on 2 GB of RAM. And the 2025 salary survey was carried out successfully. All's well that ends well.
